Technical Consultant (Mainframe)

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and oversee the development, coding, testing, debugging, and documentation of mainframe applications which are of high-quality, and scalable.
  • Lead and oversee the Implementation of automated Continuous Integration, Continuous Delivery, and Continuous Deployment pipelines for Retail Domain projects.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior developers and support team members.
  • Collaborate with Technical Architects, Functional Analysts, and Business Process Analysts to grasp project requirements.
  • Review low-level designs and code while ensuring adherence to organizational standards and provide guidance to the team.
  • Actively contribute to strategic planning and decision-making processes.
  • Participate in rotations for providing needed run time technical support for Production PL/I applications.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to analyze requirements and design efficient solutions.
  • Lead efforts in optimizing and modernizing existing mainframe systems.
  • Drive process improvements and efficiency enhancements.
  • Coach the team to enhance their proficiency in new technologies.
  • Ensure project deliverables comply with Project Management methodologies.
  • Stay updated with emerging technologies and industry trends, implementing best practices.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Extensive expertise in mainframe technologies such as PL/I, JCL, VSAM, and CICS.
  • Advanced understanding of database systems, particularly IDMS & DB2, and related tools.
  • Proficient with CI/CD tools like Jenkins, Git, Artifactory, and Jira.
  • Expertise in developing pipelines for CI/CD processes.
  • Experience in working with different IDE’s, particularly IDz.
  • Skilled in conducting 'Impact Analysis' and 'Work Package Estimation' for complex PL/I applications.
  • Should be well-versed in SOAP and REST concepts and have experience in developing RESTful services.
  • In-depth knowledge of software development life cycle (SDLC) principles.
  • Working knowledge of Traditional & Agile/Scrum methodologies.
  • Expertise in end-to-end testing for complex projects.
  • Strong project planning and execution skills ensuring timely and quality deliveries.
  • Motivated to learn and mentor team members.
  • Retail Domain expertise is advantageous.
  • Experience in Mainframe modernization/automation projects is beneficial.
  • Proven experience in leading and managing development teams.
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making abilities.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Capability to mentor and guide team members effectively.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Proficiency in modernization initiatives within the mainframe environment.
  • Proficiency in any scripting languages
  • Familiar with any other programming languages
  • Retail domain exposure.
  • Demonstrated success in driving process improvements and innovation.
